The first Pakistani pop band emerged in 1955, when vocalist Mohammed Rafi and his group Hidayat who had defected from Pakistan's famous instrumental group Mirza Ghalib joined hands with singer Khawaja Khairuddin to form Naya Savera ("New Dawn").
